Scary, scary, scary! The +1 to all combat is bad enough, but they start with
Hylar V Assault Laser and Deep Space Cannon, along with a cruiser to use
the Laser. Having a 5-resource world gives them quick early building
capacity before needing a second spacedock. That’s bad enough, but they
can quickly get Magen Defense Grid to take and hold things securely (and
keep the space nearby empty). Adding blue, with Antimass Deflectors, they
have two main choices. Via Cybernetics they can get Assault Cannon, and
possibly Graviton Negator.After only four tech, they have +2 cruisers,
fighters and PDS's, and have first strike, +1 DN’s! With one more tech,
they can bombard anyone, and have the +2 ftrs assist ground assaults!
Needing carriers to ferry GF’s forward will slow this growth, but it will
be secure and inevitable. With XRD Transporter instead of Cybernetics,
they can get Light/Wave Deflector, and soon +2 cruisers are bypassing
enemy fleets, crushing isolated ships, and blockading spacedocks, while
having the carriers keep up to capture rear areas! The main vulnerability is that they have poor starting
money, and influence, so they need to take rich worlds, possibly with
red/blue credits, and influential worlds to have a say in the Political
phase, and try to move earlier in the turn. This should be a concern in their setup of the board,
as well. If they do this, there will be hordes of roaming +2 cruisers
stomping at will (50% hit rate!), and followed by assault forces of first
shot Dreadnaughts, and carriers (possibly speed 2) with a couple +2 fighters,
+1 ground forces, and Deep Space Cannon/Magen Defense Grid PDS’s. The Summary: Fear this! |
